At Fadu Bike, you will find certified bicycle helmets for every purpose: MTB, road bike, city, e-bike, and children's helmets from brands like POC, Uvex, Abus, and Giro, starting at about 30 euros. Order online with fast shipping or try your helmet on directly in our shop in Vienna.
A certified helmet significantly reduces the severity of head injuries in the event of a fall, even at low speeds. In Austria, wearing a bicycle helmet is legally mandatory for children under 12, even as passengers. For adults, wearing one is voluntary but strongly recommended. S-pedelec riders require a suitable helmet in all cases due to their classification as motor vehicles.
Robust structure, protective visor against branches and dirt, strong ventilation for strenuous climbs. Solid MTB helmets are available starting from about 40 euros, models with extended rear head protection from 60 euros.
Aerodynamic design and low weight of often under 250 grams for long rides. Entry-level models starting around 50 euros, race helmets with MIPS from about 90 euros.
Lightweight, simple, and well-ventilated, many models with integrated rear lights for city traffic. The most popular category for everyday use, starting at about 30 euros.
Extended protection at the back of the head and at the temples for higher speeds with the e-bike. Separate, stricter standards (NTA 8776) apply to S-pedelecs. Prices are usually between 60 and 150 euros.
Legally mandatory in Austria for those under 12. Colorful designs increase visibility and willingness to wear them, and a precise adjustment system grows with the child. Children's helmets according to EN 1080 are available from about 25 euros.
For downhill, bike park, and trick riding, full-face helmets with a chin bar offer the most comprehensive protection, starting at around 80 euros.
Measure your head circumference with a tape measure about two centimeters above your eyebrows; common sizes for adults are between 52 and 63 cm. The helmet must fit firmly without pressing: if it is too loose, it will not provide sufficient protection; if it is too tight, it will be uncomfortable. Pay attention to the CE mark and the EN 1078 standard (children's helmets EN 1080), which are standard for all models in our range. When in doubt, try on different sizes directly in our shop in Vienna.
The MIPS system reduces rotational forces on the brain during an oblique impact thanks to a movable inner shell; the surcharge of usually 20 to 30 euros is worth it. Integrated LED rear lights and reflectors improve visibility at dusk, visors and glasses mounts increase comfort, and smart helmets with a crash sensor automatically send an emergency call in an emergency.
Inner pads can be washed on most models; store the helmet in a dry place protected from the sun. After a fall involving an impact, the helmet must be replaced, even without visible damage, as the internal structure may be compromised. Regardless of this, manufacturers recommend replacement after 4 to 5 years.
For children under 12, yes, when cycling and as passengers. There is no legal obligation for adults, but wearing one is strongly recommended.
Helmets certified according to EN 1078 start at about 30 euros, models with MIPS are between 60 and 120 euros, and professional helmets are above that. Children's helmets start at around 25 euros.
We strongly advise against this. The shock-absorbing structure may be invisibly damaged by previous falls, and the material also ages even when unused. Always buy helmets new.
