3 good reasons to switch to an electric scooter

Operating costs: Electric scooter compared to a petrol scooter

Electric mobility subsidies in Austria

The federal government and various institutions regularly subsidize the switch to electric two-wheelers, for example through the "eRide" funding scheme. The last major federal program ended on March 31, 2026, due to high demand. A new edition is possible subject to budget availability. In addition, many federal states and local energy suppliers offer their own grants. The Fadu Bike team is happy to advise you on the current subsidy status when you make a purchase.

Removable battery and free parking in Vienna

The lithium-ion batteries can be easily removed and charged at any standard household outlet, whether at home or in the office. In Vienna, you can avoid traffic jams on the Gürtel or in the city center with an electric scooter and find a parking space in seconds. Another advantage: single-track motor vehicles can park free of charge in Vienna's short-term parking zones; you need neither a parking ticket nor a resident parking permit. However, parking in resident-only parking spaces is not permitted.

Electric scooter with 45 km/h: Legal requirements in Austria

Important legal change effective October 1, 2026: From this date, L1e-B class e-mopeds will be legally treated as motor vehicles and will therefore be subject to motor vehicle regulations. Their use remains permitted, but the vehicles must be registered and approved without exception. The new rules apply to all vehicles from the effective date, regardless of the date of purchase. Source: Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI)

  • Driver's license requirement: Class AM (from 15 years old) or a standard car driver's license (Class B).
  • Registration and license plate: Your electric scooter must be registered. You will receive a red moped license plate with a "45" sticker. All Fadu models are delivered with complete COC documents so that registration at the vehicle registration office proceeds smoothly.
  • Insurance: Third-party liability insurance is mandatory.
  • Helmet requirement: Applies in Austria to all age groups.
  • Use the road only: As of October 1, 2026, the bicycle regulations will no longer apply. Consequently, the use of bicycle lanes and driving against the flow of one-way streets will no longer be permitted.

When purchasing, pay attention to the EU type approval: only vehicles with valid approval and COC documents can be registered in Austria. All models in the Fadu F2 to F5 series have EU type approval (Class L1e-B) and are therefore fully eligible for registration even after October 1, 2026. The new road traffic regulations (StVO), such as the prohibition on using bike lanes, will then apply to all riders equally.
