New mandatory equipment for e-scooters as of May 2026: Upgrade now

With the 36th Road Traffic Act Amendment, every e-scooter in Austria has been required to be equipped with the following since May 1, 2026:

• Turn signals (direction indicators) at the ends of the handlebars, which emit yellow light to the front and rear
• Bell or horn for emitting acoustic warning signals
• Reflectors: white to the front, red to the rear, yellow to the sides
• Headlight and red taillight for use in darkness and poor visibility
• an effective braking system
